Shillong Peak - The most amazing view point
The Shillong viewpoint is also known as the Laitkor Peak or the Shillong peak is the acme of Shillong which is located approximately 14 kilometres from the main town Shillong and is about 4.5 kilometres away from the nearest road which connects the city.
This 4.5 kilometres track passes through a narrow roadway that is covered with soothing greenery and surrounded by forests. It's an aesthetic beauty that can be felt throughout the way. The height of Shillong Peak is 1962 meters above sea level.
The Peak is located inside the Indian Air Force Base for which the security is tight and proper check is done at the gates. Due to which it is very secured and protected.
There are certain guidelines and instructions which one must follow before entering the area like tourists have to get permission for using a digital camera or else have to drop it at the entry point.
At the top of the Peak, there is a Sacred site dedicated to U Shulong and a ritual is organized every spring season in honour of U Shulong.
For a smooth and easy visit, one can opt for a local taxi or hire a private vehicle. If you love riding the bike you can also opt for it but one should not forget to carry helmets, a driving license, vehicle papers, ID proofs and if you are hiring a cab make sure to book for the return journey as well as there is no vehicle available.
One has to get down the uphill and walk around 1.5 kilometres to reach the gate as vehicles are not allowed to enter inside. Do not forget to pack your snacks.
From the Peak, the entire city can be viewed. For tourists, a telescope is available to get the bird's view of the entire city. Which can be availed at a rate of 10 bucks per person but it stays foggy most of the time. The best time to visit is between March to June as the weather is pleasant.
